Miners Picnic at Empire Mine

The first Miners Picnic was held in 1895 to raise money for miners’ widows and children, as well as injured miners. In more recent years, Empire Mine Park Association (EMPA) has hosted this event to raise funds on behalf of Empire Mine State Historic Park, to maintain and improve the park so that every visit is a magical, authentic experience. “Everyone’s invited,” said Event Chair Jack Laird, “It’s a day of drama and delight, and there’s something for every age group to enjoy.”
