Tahoe Donner’s 18-Hole Championship Golf Course Reopens After Significant Course Improvements

Tahoe Donner has announced the reopening of its 18-hole championship golf course for members and the public on Friday, May 28, 2021, conditions permitting. After completing over $2 million in course improvements in 2020, the reopening of their golf course coincides with Tahoe Donner Association’s 50th anniversary. Tee times are now available to reserve.

Golfers of all skill levels will enjoy enhanced playability, an improved pace of play and an overall enriched mountain golf experience. Renovation highlights include:

  • All new greens, including new putting and chipping greens
  • Expanded forward tees and tee box improvements
  • Wider and more playable fairways
  • Increased player shot selections through drainage work and relocated cart paths   

“For nearly 50 years, the Tahoe Donner Golf Course has challenged even the best of players and thoughtfully integrated natural streams, towering conifers and stunning alpine views into its course design,” said David Mickaelian, Tahoe Donner General Manager. “We are excited to have completed necessary renovations last year and are thrilled to help celebrate Tahoe Donner’s 50th anniversary by welcoming our community back to rediscover this beautiful alpine golf course.”

Tahoe Donner was honored to work with Cary Bickler, who recently celebrated 50 years as a golf course architect. An expert in golf course restoration, Bickler has overseen improvements for multiple courses up and down the California coast, including the La Jolla Country Club, La Cumbre Country Club in Santa Barbara, as well as previous work at Tahoe Donner. Each element of the course’s expansion and upgrade was designed with increased playability in mind. With a layout that promotes improved shot selection and turf that fares better in the off-seasons, Tahoe Donner’s golf experience is more elevated than ever before.

Frequently voted the “Best Golf Course in North Lake Tahoe and Truckee” by readers of the Sierra Sun, Tahoe Donner is one of the premier public courses in the Sierra Nevada located 35 miles from Reno and 18 miles from Lake Tahoe. Opening in 1975, Tahoe Donner was designed to provide players a true and rare mountain golf experience.Set among towering pines, meandering creeks and stunning granite formations, the 18-hole, par-72 championship course offers 7,002 challenging yards from the longest tee.

Golfers can warm up at the on-site driving range and schedule a variety of one-hour weekly skills clinics for just $25 per session. Enjoy a twilight round for just $95 – including a golf cart – or a prime-time tee time starting at just $130 in the early and late seasons.

After a round, enjoy lunch or dinner at The Lodge Restaurant & Pub, an award-winning restaurant and bar with indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the golf course. Golfer’s Happy Hour is offered daily from 2-4 p.m. during golf season. Additionally, the Tee Nine Grill, located next to the pro shop, offers breakfast, lunch and a wide variety of beverages.
