Nevada County Snow Play

If you’re looking for a fun, socially-distanced activity to enjoy with the kids, snow play is a great family activity that can create a lifetime of joyful memories.

However, before you load up the sleds and drive up I-80, please make sure to keep your family’s safety in mind. This winter, Truckee and its surrounding areas are experiencing higher traffic congestion getting to/from ski areas. Always plan ahead, make reservations and give yourself plenty of time to travel. For your best vacation, stay midweek vs. weekends and holidays. Covid updates and travel information can be found at Truckee.com/knowbeforeyougo.

For those of you with fur babies, Truckee added 8 miles of snow removal on winter trails this season! This brings the total to 21 miles of snow-free paved paths, perfect for a sunny walk or run after a storm. Find the perfect place for a day of fun with your pups in Truckee’s guide to Dog-Friendly, Snow Free Winter Trails.

No matter where you are headed this winter, please make sure to recreate responsibly. This includes :

  • Checking traffic updates before you drive to the snow, because no one wants to be stuck in the car for hours waiting for the highway to be cleared, or worse, not being prepared for winter driving conditions.
  • Please remember to leave no trace when you are visiting the snow. Littering is never okay, ever.
  • Follow all Covid-19 safety protocols, including masking in populated areas and keeping six feet of distance between your family and others.
  • Make sure you have the proper gear for winter weather, and keep your car stocked with water, snacks, blankets, and chains.

With a little planning, you can have a wonderful winter wonderland adventure. And don’t forget to take photos! You’ll want to remember the joy of these times.
