The 20th annual Ridgestock Music and Sustainability Expo is happening for TWO DAYS at the North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center from 3-11 p.m. on August 16-17, 2019.
This year the organizers have an extra special announcement: This is the FINAL Ridgestock!
But that doesn’t mean this year won’t be extraordinary with new acts as well as old favorites! As usual this is a family friendly (NO DOGS) event with a kids’ space and special performances just for them. This year, organizers have added Friday evening to make it an even more fantastic event for its final year. Another change is that workshops have been added, which will take place from 3-5 p.m. and topics include herbalism, permaculture and firewise issues. To encourage workshop participation and get folks there early, North Columbia Schoolhouse is offering up a door prize of three free posters to first 30 people on both Friday and Saturday.
Then, the music kicks off around 5 p.m. The lineup is incredible with bands from near and far!
On the first evening, longtime favorites THE MERMEN offer up their own special blend of surf and psychedelic rock guaranteed to bring the big waves to the foothills.
Subheadliners, local GOLDEN SHOULDERS are on the precipice of another great CD release and are performing for the first time locally since 2017. The catchy and witty lyrics, great beats and incredible talent make Golden Shoulders a Nevada City favorite. A new and upcoming local band BROKEN SPOKES, featuring Jessica Lynn, are folk rockers of a new breed, putting a little rock and roll on the stage accompanied by strong female vocals.
Early on Friday, we will be having a HAUTE TRASH mini show with kids and teens, a sneak peek to Saturday’s full Haute Trash intermission show in the evening. Haute Trash is a local group of artists and designers who fashion clothes out of recycled items, such as packing materials, pool accessories, bags and so much more you can’t even imagine.
On the final day there is another stellar production in store with more bands, bellydancers, a magic show and a full Haute Trash Fashion show!
Headlining Saturday is STONE MECCA. This band has performed live with Earth, Wind & Fire, in the studio with Corinne Bailey Rae, Anderson Paak, Kanye West, Method Man, George Clinton, on the road with Wu-Tang Clan, and whenever RZA performs live, he often shares stage billing with Stone Mecca and his band. Says RZA, “Stone Mecca gives us a modern day example of what heart and soul music is.”
Subheadliners MATTHEW HUMAN AND THE HUMAN REVOLUTION have been another local favorite. Hailing fans from Costa Rica, Hawaii and NorCal, Human blends good vibe island tunes with a soulful funky rocking groove. Also performing are local band, SKANK BANK, which touts mostly a funk vibe. Other Musicians featured includee: Kalyja Rain, and Chonie Vargas
Special performances by Nick Fedoroff, performing magic and other feats of illusion, HAUTE TRASH FASHION show, plus BELLYDANCERS.
