Several farms and ranches will once again welcome the community to come experience local agriculture at Nevada County Grown’s second annual Farm Trail Weekend, taking place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. each day the weekend of July 20-21. Participants choose their own path and set their own pace as they explore a variety of locations along the Nevada County Farm Trail.
Explore at your own pace with each venue offering something unique and interesting from guided tours, u-pick produce, handmade gifts, and an ideal setting for a family picnic. This is a perfect event for foodies, families, and weekend adventurers.
AM Ranch – AM Ranch believes in using their animals and land together to create a sustainable and thriving environment. They raise beef, pork, and eggs. Their beef is grass fed and grass finished. All of their pigs and chickens are out on the pasture and supplemented with a non-GMO feed. Two in-depth tours will be offered each day; one on Saturday at 2 p.m. and two tours on Sunday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Get up close and personal with the animals. Family friendly. Please come at tour times only.
A to Z Supply BEEKEEPING – A to Z Supply has been in the beekeeping business since 2007. A to Z Supply is happy to offer hobbyist beekeepers (no commercial operations) their on-site Honey House to extract their honey. Tour and Talk each day at 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Try on a bee suit to get the full experience. Limited suits per sessionIf allergic to bees, please do not attend. Must sign liability release.
Avanguardia Wines – A small (actually ultra-boutique) winery, home of non-traditional blended wines, with the great majority of the wines being proprietary blends crafted from 2-6 different grape varieties, many of which are Italian, and all of which are pretty much out of the mainstream. Tour times: 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. each day or stop in and taste wonderfully unique wines. Bring a picnic and enjoy the foothills!
Cosmic Roots Ranch is a small family owned farm primarily raising heritage Mangalista pork that is USDA, Non-GMO, Pasture Raised, & Antibiotic Free. They also offer CA certified Free Range eggs, as well as 100% All Natural handmade lard soaps and candles. Tour times: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days, seating, shade, bathrooms, picnic area, artisanal products for sale, piglet petting and chick house, family friendly, pop ups: Wingfield Honey Co & Starflower Farm.
Gray Pine Winery is a small, limited-production winery with an annual production of approximately 350 cases. Grapes to make the wine are grown on the on-site two-acre vineyard. Specializing in Bordeaux varietals, they produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and a classic Bordeaux-style Red Blend, as well as a very small amount of Sauvignon Blanc. Come taste specialized small lot wines and enjoy a picnic on the beautiful grounds.
Love Creek Sanctuary & Farms has a mission is to provide peace, love, and shelter for displaced farm critters and re-home them to a loving family like yours! Come meet the rescues and cool down and enjoy your lunch at Love Creek with relaxing picnic areas. Lucchesi Vineyard and Winery’s Sierra Foothills Vineyard is high upon a hillside overlooking Nevada County with beautiful views of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Sierra Rose Alpacas – sells Alpacas and alpaca products such as yarn, locally knit alpaca wear, alpaca rugs, and socks. They have raw fleece, and fleece and/or roving for spinners and fiber arts. SUNDAY ONLY – Alpaca Farm Tours at the top of each hour from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Selfies OK. Unfortunately, no petting at this time. Spinning demos throughout the day with plenty of artisan products for sale. Please note: no restrooms, no picnicking due to health restrictions, no food/drinks for sale.
Starbright Acres Family Farm produces and supports production of nutritious, delicious, planet-friendly food for our local community and family. Tour times: 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. both days, seating, bathrooms, picnic area, artisanal products for sale, activities for kids, family friendly.
(HUB – start here) Tres Jolie Lavender Farm is a small family owned lavender farm nestled in the Sierra Foothills. They do not use pesticides and all lavender is harvested by hand. Fresh cut lavender, dried lavender bouquets, lavender buds, distilled lavender essential oil, lotions, linen spray, soaps, and sachets. Tour times: all day, both days, Music by the Heifer Belles on Saturday from 2 – 4 p.m., U-pick lavender (subject to availability) Lavender lotion and oil for sale, activities for adults and kids (wreath making) Pop up Country Time Sorbet and Distillation of lavender oil demonstration 11 a.m. on Sunday.
