Get your race on in Nevada County

Nevada County is a veritable playground for those who live an active and healthy lifestyle.  The lakes and rivers provide ample swimming, kayaking, and stand up paddleboarding opportunities.  The endless trails in our towns and Tahoe National Forest allow for everything from casual day hikes to rock climbing and backpacking adventures that will challenge even the most hardcore athlete.

If distance racing and challenging yourself is your thing, Nevada County has got you covered this month!

The 24th annual Barbara Schmidt Millar “Celebration of Life” Triathlon Event will take place on Sunday, September 16, at Scott’s Flat Lake in Nevada City.  This all-woman triathlon and 5K walk/run honors the late Millar, who passed from breast cancer but whose legacy lives on.  The funds raised from this event benefit the Women’s Imaging Center at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, targeting women who cannot afford their annual mammogram, and to the Barbara Schmidt Millar Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to female high school graduates of Nevada Union High School pursuing an education in the healthcare profession.
