Explore Rough and Ready

The small community of Rough and Ready exemplifies country living. One of Nevada County’s first settlements, Rough and Ready celebrates its place in history and is located a short drive from Bridgeport, home to one of the longest single-span wooden bridges in America. Wildflower, fall color, and historic walks, as well as gold panning and living history days, are offered throughout the year. Visitors driving through Rough and Ready on a Sunday morning can catch a performance by the Fruit Jar Pickers – with sing-alongs, country, bluegrass, and gospel songs. Make sure you stop by the market and deli to chat with local porch sitters. Pick up a picnic on your way to Coufos Cellars – the area’s boutique winery situated on the former site of a 20-acre dairy farm with a tasting room in the old blacksmith shop.
