Explore Penn Valley

Just six miles outside of Grass Valley, Penn Valley is a world unto itself. The tight-knit community embraces the outdoors and wildlife. Visitors will see horses, llamas, deer, and wild turkey going about their daily business just as retirees and school children make their way to the local coffee shop and Gateway Park. Plan your visit around popular events like the Penn Valley Rodeo and Parade, colorful Daffodil 10K Run, and living history days. The Pilot Peak Winery sits above Penn Valley and rivals most area tasting rooms with its terraces and patios overlooking incredibly scenic grounds and vineyards.

The nearby Bridgeport is home to one of the longest single-span wooden bridges in the U.S. and accesses one of the most inviting swimming and hiking areas on the South Yuba River. Bird and wild flower walks, living history days and gold-panning demonstrations are held seasonally.

A stop at Caleb’s Creamery is a must. The family-run shop is a throwback to simpler times, serving old-fashioned ice cream and organic, fair-trade coffee. Other notable eateries include The Tack Room Restaurant and Bar (serving classic steaks and grilled seafood), Daybreak Café for delicious omelets, Pleasant Valley Grill, Tuscany Gardens, and Northridge of Penn Valley.
