Here’s a memorable way to celebrate springtime – as well as the special women in your life. Step back in time this Mother’s Day at the annual event at Empire Mine State Park, taking place from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sunday, May 13.

Enjoy springtime fountains, rose gardens and lavish, turn-of-the-century costumes. Stroll through beautiful Empire Cottage – and meet docents portraying the colorful characters who shaped our local, gold-mine history. The old Mineyard will be full of activity – much the way it was in Empire’s heydays of gold, grit and glory.

Tasty food, beverages and ice cream are available for purchase from local vendors – or bring your own lunch, blankets and chairs, and picnic on the beautiful grounds.  Enjoy a complimentary cup of tea in the special Ladies Tea Garden.  Live music and entertainment for children will add to the fun.

Children are also welcome to pot a plant as an extra surprise at the popular potting bench.

The prices are: $7 for 17 & over, $3 ages 6-16 and FREE admission for children under 6 and grandmothers.

Blue Marble Jubilee is fun for the whole family!

The Blue Marble Jubilee will return this year bigger and better than before. The all ages event takes place from 12-7 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, at the Nevada County Fairgrounds, with a mission to “Connect – Explore – Celebrate.” A colorful, village-style one-day festival, the Blue Marble Jubilee is an Earth-centered event to inspire, educate and empower people to make a difference in the community and our world. Plus, the day will be filled with fun!  Spend a spring day at “California’s most beautiful fairgrounds” enjoying live music, great food, and fun activities for the entire family.  Dance under the pines to Earles of Newtown, the Achilles Wheel Trio, and more. Enter the Jubilee Playhouse, which will have fun-filled demos, workshops, and performances throughout the event.  Relax with some delicious refreshments including craft beer and wine, and a signature sangria. Cool off with a root beer or 50/50 float – a kid-friendly version and a spiked version for adults! A variety of local food trucks offer something for everyone’s tastes.
