Enjoy wine tasting and gourmet bites at the Foothills Celebration

022717- Foothills Celebration Logo Enjoy a taste of Western Nevada County from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, in Downtown Grass Valley.  Originally scheduled for March 3, this event was postponed due to weather. The Foothills Celebration, now in its 17th year, is jointly hosted by the Grass Valley Downtown Association and Sierra Vintners and showcases some of the finest Northern California wines, local gourmet cuisine, and confectioners delights.

Event goers are invited to stroll, sip, sample, and shop their way through Downtown Grass Valley, with over 20 locations featuring food, wine, and good times. Tickets include unlimited wine and beer tasting, with over 30 varietals being poured, and five food tickets to allow you to sample local cuisine paired with the wine being offered at each location.

The Foothills Celebration is just the therapy you’ll need for a late winter weekend. Everyone is in good spirits and just glad to get out of the house. The great thing about this event is that rain or shine, it’s just as good. The wineries and restaurants are all paired with local downtown Grass Valley merchants who open their stores for this unique wine and food tasting affair.

Over the last several years, Nevada County has really come into its own as a Mecca for small wineries, with 48 different varietals planted locally and 18 wineries producing over 40,000 cases of wine annually.  Recently, Grass Valley has expanded its selection of micro-breweries and tap houses, including Thirsty Barrell, which opened late in 2017, and Grass Valley Brewing Company, a brand new brewery and tap house that will open in early spring of 2018.  Both are included in the Foothills Celebration location map this year, adding beer tasting to the event.

More than just wine and beer tasting, the Foothills Celebration offers gourmet bites that you do not want to miss. Stop by the Lucchesi tasting room for some wine paired with delicious carnitas tacos, chips and salsa from Maria’s Mexican Restaurant.  Don’t miss the Smith Vineyard Tasting Room, where Diego’s will be serving “Sandwichitos;” local rancher Jim Gates steak grilled and thinly sliced with their own pan amasado bread topped with chimichurri sauce.  This is an explosion of south American flavor that is distinctly Grass Valley, and pairs perfectly with Smith’s full bodied reds.  The Olive Groove will be pouring wines from their own Vian Estates and doing an olive oil tasting. Tess’ Kitchen Store will be pouring wines from their in-store wine collection hand with delicious gourmet bites from their own celebrated chef Alan Tangren.

Head over to Cirino’s at Main Street for a smorgasbord of culinary delights including crostini with lobster dip, La Cucina olives, grilled asparagus spears, Genoa salami, Capicola salami, Grana Pardano cheese, Jerry’s beer seeds, chocolate  mousse, and fresh strawberries served with Cirino’s signature Bloody Mary.  This is one location you absolutely do not want to miss!  When the sweet tooth hits, stop by Lazy Dog Chocolateria for some hand-dipped chocolate covered strawberries.
