It’s Mardi Gras time, and even though the official date is February 13, Nevada City will be celebrating for over a week!
The party begins at the the Miners Foundry Cultural Center. They are hosting a Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball from 8-11:30 p.m. this Saturday, February 10. Grab your dancing shoes and a Mardi Gras masque and rock the night away! Mumbo Gumbo will headline the evening with special guests, the Bob Woods Trio.
Mumbo Gumbo is a 7 piece band whose big musical stew contains elements of soul, zydeco, folk, blues, rock, cajun, Carribean, and country, all mixed into their uniquely festive roots music sound. Bob Woods is a Western Swing Hall of Fame Inductee who has been playing music since 1971. Costumes and masks encouraged! Costumes and masks are encouraged! Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the music starts at 8:00 p.m. This is a standing / dancing show with limited seating available. Tickets are $25. Ticketing fees may apply. The 26th anniversary of Nevada City’s annual Mardi Gras Celebration is set to happen on Sunday, February 18. The annual event, hosted by the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce, features a colorful & festive parade & street faire throughout the streets of historic downtown Nevada City.
The Street Faire on N. Pine & Commercial Streets will be open from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Beads, masks and Mardi Gras shirts will be available for sale, along with a wide array of vendors selling food,
drinks, crafts & more!
Spectators will crowd the streets to enjoy the floats & revelers at the 26th annual Mardi Gras Parade, 2 p.m. on Broad Street, Nevada City. Everyone is encouraged to attend in festive Mardi Gras attire.
This is a family event for all ages. Please, NO GLASS CONTAINERS. Bring your lawn chairs to watch the parade/reserve your space. Give yourself plenty of plenty of time to park your vehicle & to walk, as streets will be closed around the parade route and town will be busy. This is a RAIN OR SHINE EVENT.
After the parade, head over to Crazy Horse Saloon and Grill for a FREE Mardi Gras after party at 3:30 p.m. DJ Fossil will kee
p the New Orleans funk spirit alive and the dance floor cooking. Show off your beads, suck down a few of their signature Hurricanes and savor our famous gumbo.
To get ready for all of these Mardi Gras events, head to Solstice in downtown Nevada City, a vintage consignment store and costume shop that has all of your masquerade needs covered.
You don’t have to travel to New Orleans to enjoy Fat Tuesday, just head to Nevada City!
