Nutcracker Pic1With more than 115 cast members from six local dance organizations, this nationally-recognized production is sure to please the entire family. Each year, Center Stage continues to bring together one of the largest casts of dancers in the area through the dedication of performers ages 4-70, a community of dedicated volunteers, and a full production staff headed by Dori Delgado and Wendy Fritzinger, as well as Artistic Director Hollie McGovern.

In the past fourteen years, Center Stage has created a production of The Nutcracker that provides a transformative experience for its participants and audience. Community radio KVMR 89.5 FM, Telestream Inc. and The Union are the media sponsors of this year’s 14th anniversary production of The Nevada County Nutcracker.

The delightful ballet –with its elaborate party scene, Clara’s dream, and the Land of the Sweets – expands the imagination of not only the child dancer, but also the children who come to watch it.
Each year, Center Stage Dance Studio hosts nearly a thousand school children at the much-anticipated holiday field trip, where local schools come to see a slightly abridged version of the full show. The delight, however, is not just for children. In four public shows, children and adults of all ages return to bask in the glow of the holiday lights and warmth of the classical music.

There is something special about a ballet – a fully engaging experience without words, where the bodies move gracefully, playfully about the stage sharing the timeless story of The Nutcracker. For the devoted guests who return each year, the show’s commitment to new choreography each season keeps the show fresh and dynamic while maintaining the warm-hearted experience as well as keeping to high artistic and professional production standards to make this show a family tradition. This year’s choreographers include Dori Delgado, Wendy Fritzinger, Hollie McGovern, Elise McQuaide, Brookke Rodgers, and Janel Sunde.

It is important to note that this year there will be assigned seating once again, so make sure to get your tickets early as this popular event sells out fast!

For those who are interested in a VIP experience, Center Stage offers “Dance and Dream with Clara and Her Friends” on December 2 and 3. This package includes a meet and greet at noon before each matinee show as well as VIP parking, photo ops with Sugarplum and friends, a goodie bag, cupcake, dancing on stage, and a poster for autographs.
